Product Names

Public Group active 3 hours, 44 minutes ago

You’ve worked long hours and spend a lot of money developing a killer product — make sure you give it a name that will propel it out in the world, not let it get pushed to the back of the shelf. Post requests for product names as new topics in Forum for this group.

We have been trying to work on a cohesive naming strategy for a few weeks now, and have really stalled out. Here are the parameters…

    1. There is an underlying “Grid operating system” capable of planetary-scale computing…it is currently named cGRID, for “collaborative grid”
    2. There are a suite of security products which run on this operating system, tackling traditional things like data loss, firewalling, intrusion prevention and the like.

The company itself is named “Red Lambda”, and we’ve experimented with all kinds of things, from colors, to constellation/star names, and I really feel like we’re just suffering from some serious writers block atm! I really hope you folks can help us break through the wall for a product suite that has a chance to change the way the world computes!

I should also add that “grid” computing may also be considered “cloud” computing or “private cloud” computing.

Thanks quark! I’ll pass these by the team and see what they think. Just to try and help clarify, we’re trying to name the platform (item 1 above) and the suite of products that run across it. These can obviously have separate names, e.g. Windows and the Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, etc.).

The “Iso” prefix is a cool idea. I actually think it flew by before briefly, but it feels fresh coming from you :D

We have the domain Quarx(.com) in inventory here.

Quarx is an invention, but seems good to me for a cloud-based product line. Then perhaps Lenticular and/or Droplet and/or Gallery Cloud and/or Global Brightening, etc. for product names within.

I recognize these may not appeal to you and/or they may be an issue as far as IP, but I can can go further down this road if it interested.

I see Quarx turns up quite a bit now on Google (hadn’t looked in a while), but the only results I see on a basic trademark search come up as “dead”

…those were ours from long ago. The name might still be free

Here we go again, lol. The name we settled on was AppIron, which came back with a complaint.

Does anyone have any fresh ideas on this? we are interested in a name that stays away from clouds, and tries to build off of Grid in some way (since that’s what we are). The first product to run off the platform is called “MetaGrid”, for example.

There is now a poll setup to get feedback on a small list of names. *Please* only vote if you like the names!:
