You’ve worked long hours and spend a lot of money developing a killer product — make sure you give it a name that will propel it out in the world, not let it get pushed to the back of the shelf. Post requests for product names as new topics in Forum for this group.

    Hi!
I have designed a new style of dungaree for kids ages 1-3, which is based on traditional Japanese clothing but uses western fabrics, which allows for easy nappy/diper changing but is very stylish and pretty; it’s also very easy for kids to run about in and can be made in warm fabrics for every day use, and light weight fabrics as a cover up for the beach/holiday/hot weather.

The name is important as it’s a new garment, it’s somewhere between a kimono and pants but is an all in one. (I can’t post any pics yet but will later)

I have come up with some names but not sure which to use, the branding is very important as I’m launching a new product; so far I have come up with

‘Jumparound’ – a cross between Jump suit and wrap around, which I thought also gave the impression the kids could run and jump around in it.

Some people have said it’s not classy enough, so I also came up with

‘Rappu rappu’ – which is the Japanese word for ‘wrap’ repeated, which I hoped would be pretty, and give them impression of wrapping the garment round twice.

Please could I have any comments on these names , or your suggestions for new ones;I need a name to appeal to fashion conscious mums and grandmums, which is for both boys and girls as the garment is unisex.

    Thanks!

    Kimonarees

…but I like ‘Jumparounds’. It fits with the kids marketplace you are selling into and makes them sound like fun.

Me too, there’s a lot riding on it so I need feedback to help my confidence to fight for my corner!

Yes, Jumparound is good, but how about evoking a jumper metaphorically, like…

    Dungaroo
    Kangaroo

Dungaroo works as a new name for a new type of garment related to dungarees, but also because it implies kangaroos, which both jump around and have pouches, like your access door for easy diaper changing.

    Armadillos
    Rolley Polley
    Jumping Jacks

Dungaroo is cool, as Snark suggested! Here’s some others:
Joey Joy (Joey is a baby kangaroo. Joy is a favored Japanese word)
Motoga (Moto = to move, toga = toga) ;-) Also, sounds slightly Japanese

    Jumping Jeans
    Romparound (Romperound)
    Hop Sack
    Jumpster
    Hopalong
    Merry-Go-Round

Thanks, I have written them on my wall and keep looking at them, not sure about the kangaroo references , I came up with Toddler Swaddler, but that’s too low rent sounding, though oddly Australian! Back to kangaroos,

Go with your gut….’jumparounds’ is very strong and unless anything else is really speaking to you you should trust your instincts.

Or go with my gut: Dungaroos

It’s also got that nice reference to “dung” in it, as in easy diaper removal flap. Dung (the function — to remove it) + dungarees (the what — clothing item) + kangaroos (the aspiration — jumping around, freedom of movement, play)

I’m late to this thread, but I have to agree with @snark – your friends will find Dungaroo even less classy, but the name is instantly noticed and remembered (+ funny and cute, while it illustrates the function).

I like risky names when you can get away with it. Risky in and of itself is not good, but when you can make it work you get a lot of mileage right out of the gate. Dungaroo isn’t necessarily so risky either. Everyone is accepting of baby shit :)

Re Jumparound – no problem here, but it feels more like a line name than a brand. Like the Dungaroo Jumparound, Dungaroo Jammy, Dungaroo Palybound, etc.

    My 2cents – good luck!
