I just acquired a new horse who came with the name “Ricky.” He doesn’t look or act like any Ricky I ever met, so I want a different name! He’s an 8-yr-old, chestnut Arab (or mostly Arab), with a very wide blaze. He was EXTREMELY thin (think: a 3 on the body condition scale), but moves nicely, and has the distinctive Arab tail-flag, even at the trot. He stands around 14.3 or 15 hands. He’s very sweet, and is loving the attention (and food!) he’s now getting. Here’s the deal: I picked him up at auction, and I’m pretty sure I rescued him (however inadvertantly) from the butcher. I was looking for a horse I could ride while training my 3-yr-old (Habib-Arabic for “darling, beloved”). I only paid $200 for him, but I’m sure he’s a diamond in the rough. If nothing else, I can fatten him back up and sell him for cheap to some nice kid for 4-H. He still needs a better name than “Ricky!” I’ve tried the Arabic words for friend, brother, etc. and nothing seems to suit him. My hub wants to call him “Abu” so that’s what we’ll go with unless all you clever thinkers can come up with something else! Thanks all!
