Company Names

Public Group active 12 hours, 28 minutes ago

The name of your company should make a sudden impact, be memorable, and create buzz. If not, prepare to be eaten alive by the other companies that know how to brand themselves.

    Hey,

I’m working with small businesses and running a freelance consulting service for web presence and internet exposure. I believe my value proposition is engagement, engaging rather than blindly posting and promoting, encouraging to think ” help people,” and “care about your customer” when creating online presence for your small business. Most big and medium companies (and not even talking about small companies) don’t engage with their customers online. They don’t get into conversation with their followers or existing clients on social networks. They mostly just post and hope for more people and bigger numbers. Is this v.p. too general?

Any ideas for my future business name that would incorporate the idea of connecting / empathy / engagement – engaging with your customers and potential prospects?

    Thank you!

    Here’s one idea:

Promote a contest whereby entrants submit proposals on how company-X can better connect/engage w customers, and enter into the world of social media marketing, etc. in an honest, effective manner.

The kicker – give away a share-% of the company to the winner. If it is a large company, make it worth something sizable ($1M). This should help generate significant buzz, etc., so when the winning campaign ultimately launches, it will have wide-spread recognition from the get-go.

Turn the winner into a new spokesperson for the company.

I need a name for my consulting business though.

Ok, I was hoping you weren’t just asking for a name ;)

    Local Motion
    N-Gage Consulting

    …the opposite of buzzkill!

Yeah, it’s not just about the name. About value proposition as well – if it’s too general and cheesy or it’s something that’s truly important.
(But I wasn’t really looking for solutions on how to make companies engage ;) )

N-Gage Consulting is great. There’s someone who started http://www.ngageconsulting.com just recently (I looked at available domains and search results) but I can outrank them easily + they are 1-2 weeks old online it seems.
“n-gageconsulting” domain names are available – awesome! :D

Can you elaborate on “Local Motion”? Meaning? It’s not obvious I suppose.
(Plus exact domain names are not available – that’s important for me)

    Any other ideas?
    Thank you!

Snark can tell you best how to deal with the domain; he’ll argue using a modifier if you cannot get the exact domain, and that it is not so important given the way search engines score, etc.

Local Motion is simply a play on Locomotion. It feels social to me (the local part) and social is obv. important in your above descriptors.

    Best luck!

Quark (or anyone else – I’d appreciate it), what are your thoughts about
    “Reengage Consulting”
    ?

    Audience – mostly small business.
    Meaning:
First engagement – when ppl sign up for services/buy products.
    Then companies forget…
Reengagement – because people matter; focusing on people not numbers; getting back to what business is meant to be – relationship; getting back to roots,…
(I’ll have to create the awareness of what it means)

Any pointers and feedback would help greatly!

I think ReEngage is ok, but why not just Engage? More direct, powerful, less diluted and wordy. Unfortunately, there are at least 8 different Engage(d) Consulting — http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=engage+consulting&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#q=engage+consulting&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&prmd=imvns&ei=NZb8T6LBDoqM2gWv6I2wCQ&start=0&sa=N&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=85aec98b99f31513&biw=1879&bih=1068 — it’s just way to overused. So even ReEngage has all that “Engage” baggage.

Try this: look for evocative, metaphorical ways to say “Engage,” “Connect,” “One to One,” “Heart to Heart,” “Personal Connection,” “Personal,” etc, without saying it directly with a word like “Engage.” Doing so will immediately set you apart from your competitors, most of whom trolled the thesaurus to find their names.

Snark, your feedback is really appreciated! Thank you very much!

I’m in online business, most of by businesses will be through online, and availability of domains and such was really important. That’s the reason I (truly loved but) stayed away from Engage Consulting. Nothing there is available.
I understand that positioning myself is way more important than getting exact domains and social profiles.

I did try some other ways of getting “Engage” without using the word. Didn’t have much luck, really. I think it’s really at the point of “perfection” vs. “getting things done” now.

However, I realize now, after coming up with ReEngage by “Eureka!” method (just got the idea in my head), then totally dismissing it, then coming back to it after a month or so of thinking and thinking about other ideas – I truly love this ReEngage idea now. I think I now love it more than Engage.

0 competition comes as a bonus. People (related and non-related to my field) love it. A couple of people that are not in online or SEO business (lets call them clueless about branding) got what it means just with the name and no explanations and descriptions. I was impressed.

I think I’m really ready to keep it :D
OK from you is like “Absolutely!” to me.

It will now be less about the name but about positioning it to really feel like “Personal Connection” to my clients.

If any of this I didn’t get right – please correct me.
I’m excited and need lots of ice to cool down right now.
I had an identity crisis with my personal brand and business brand for past 3+ months.
