Company Names

The name of your company should make a sudden impact, be memorable, and create buzz. If not, prepare to be eaten alive by the other companies that know how to brand themselves.

    Hi brilliant linguists!

I am starting a new business where I am offering custom built poker tables (Texas Hold’em style) to my customers. I’m looking for a little guidance for a name and tagline for my business.

I’m torn between three options / methodologies:

    1. Atlanta Poker Tables – pro and con = It is location specific. Good news is I’d get a lot of local business. I wouldn’t get a lot of interest outside of Atlanta, but poker tables are expensive to ship.

    2. Something poker related in the title. For example, Full House Poker Tables. Is this overplayed? I’m concerned with differentiation with this option.

    3. Build a brand – Envious Poker Tables. I think I like this one the most. I could build a brand behind “Envious”. The table all your friends want to play on… Something like that. I would like some assistance on tag lines.

Please help my clarify what option I should choose, provide business name ideas and associated tag lines.

Thank you so much for your input.

Go with Option 3 — you want to build a brand, not be a mere commodity seller. Provided it is clear for trademark, I think “Envious” is strong, and you can build on that. You can always optimize your site for the key phrase “Atlanta poker tables,” which will get you the same benefit of having that as a descriptive name, but without having a crappy, limited name. And you should plan for at least the possibility of being bigger than just the Atlanta area.

Yes, the choices in Option 2 are probably pretty overused. May not be too big a problem in Atlanta, but likely would be if/when you reach a larger audience.
