I prefer Anvil to Blacksmith, and Flying Anvil works for me.
The reason is that the connotations are slightly, but very importantly, different; the anvil is the tool on which quite intricate and elegant pieces of work are crafted, and by focusing on the word ‘Anvil’ you lose the picture of the sweaty, brawny bloke with big forearns that pops into the mind when you mention the word ‘blacksmith’ and focus instead on the craftsmanship aspect of his trade. It also conveys skill, precision and simplicity.
Hence although the broad analogy is the same, the particular analogy is actually different, and the mental picture altered….as is the ‘residual image’.
Flying Anvil is nice….and it lends itself to the addition of a good tagline and interesting branding.
