Company Names

Public Group active 6 hours, 14 minutes ago

The name of your company should make a sudden impact, be memorable, and create buzz. If not, prepare to be eaten alive by the other companies that know how to brand themselves.

Post requests for company names as new topics in the Forum for this group.

I am trying to help out a friend who is starting her own home based business.

She is going to be making belts & “designer” jeans for little boys.

The names we have come up with are

Little Dude Duds – already taken :(
Little Britches – however, there is a company called Lil’ Britches
    Little Man Threads
    Little Dude Threads
    Stylin Sprouts
    Half-Pint Apparel
What About Boys – because this is strictly directed towards little boys, and little boys clothes are so hard to find, especially cute or stylish ones!

Any ideas because we are stumped! PLEASE!

She wants something that is quick, simple but still unique.

Here are 2 more that I came up with this morning:

    Little Buddy Britches
    Little Guy Get-Ups

Now she is trying to decide between:
    Little Britches
    Little Buddy Britches
    Little Guy Get-Ups

    What do ya’ll think/suggest?

Anything that sounds like/looks like a brand already in the marketplace is a mistake (as well as potentially a source of a passing-off action). That rules out the first two options.

Personally, I think you would be better off going for a name that doesn’t strive to get a description of the target market in the name – put that in a tagline istead and it gives you a whole lot more options as well as distinguishing you from all your competitors who are going down the same path.

    For example

    Smarty Pants
Individual jeans and belts for individual little boys

‘Smarty pants’ may not be the right name, but you get the principle….

using G in your name is more memorable so id go for get ups although its a handful. i assume here that the buyer is the parent and not the child. little seems like it would appeal to mothers more than fathers whod want something more machof or their kids.
how about changing ‘Little’ to ‘Growing’ ?
woudl appreciate yoru input on my own naming problem

    thanks

Chris- there are no competitors going down the same path right now that is why she is doing it. We also know that the first name is ruled out because it is already taken, so that is kind of obvious.

We don’t want “Growing” or anything that relates to them getting bigger because the company is only doing select sizes newborn – 4T. So “Growing” would portray that the company sells larger sizes which it won’t.

This company is targeted at “Little” for a reason, because of the very limited size & the fact that after 4T it is easier to find cute, stylish outfits for boys.

Forgive me Jess, but you said that Little Dude Duds and Lil Britches were already taken. Whether they are absolutely similar competitors or not, if they are in the same broad field (I guess they are) you run the risk of confusion.

I am trying to be helpful; if it is ‘obvious’ that a name is ruled out, why offer it?

You’ll find positive feedback and encouragement work better than attitude, We are trying to help.

I think @chris‘s Smarty Pants is a great name for this product, unless you think it implies something like “smart pants” and connotations of a diaper product.

Boy Blue or Blue Boy is good
    Little Dude
    Youngin’
    Toddler Modern
    Short Cuts

    Ok, I got it:

    Little Big Man
