Company Names

Public Group active 24 minutes ago

The name of your company should make a sudden impact, be memorable, and create buzz. If not, prepare to be eaten alive by the other companies that know how to brand themselves.

Post requests for company names as new topics in the Forum for this group.

    Hi everybody!

I’m desperately in need of a memorable name for my weblog. I’m writing the blog from two different viewpoints which very often kindle together and sometimes one blog item fits perfectly both of my categories; around half of my posts are written in professional manner about subjects such as Web 2.0, programming, hypermedia, web development, design paradigms, varying specific technologies (such as PHP, JavaScript, (X)HTML / HTML 5, CSS), usability, accessibility, business models on web, analysis and experiences from many of the biggest and sometimes even some more underground existing web services etc. I’m still studying these things at my University, but I’ve been already working for several instances in different hypermedia-related work places.

The other viewpoint and effort to offer something of value for my readers is to write about all sorts of media, as I truly am a media enthusiast, “media” including plenty of media forms such as TV(-series), movies, music, books (mostly fiction). Sometimes I even write in review format and I very often branch out to write about for instance technological issues/possibilities in delivering HDTV or analysing why industry is using certain codecs for video etc.

Okay, now you got a clue about my blog so you can help me making a good name for it. Here’s some help (or are these just making helping me harder?):

    - I don’t want the name to be too techy. I can be a bit techy, but not only that.
    - I do really appreciate cleverness and puns in the name. Some aspect in the name that makes reader smile would even help me a lot in making a graphical logo for the blog.
    - I do often write in very strongly worded posts, which include clear and definitive opinions about things. Not necessary to take into account but it kind of rules out certain types of soft names, I think.
    - One typical and common structure for my blog posts is that I take some defect, issue or problem directly to the table, present it and after that I offer my idea for a solution to this problem. I think this might even make my blog a bit political or philosophical.

I would also really appreciate any slogans or taglines to go with the blog names you suggest. Of course I’m able to make those up myself also.

One more thing to help you guys… I went through all the relevant categories in Archives and here’s some sort of list of names that somehow popped into my eye and felt to be “almost it” – but not quite.

Thanks for the great list. I’m still trying to figure it out though, just none of the names I have made up or read from Archives or from your post are exactly it. However I’ve decided on one new restriction; I’m probably not gonna use the word Zen in the name even though at the first place I liked it a lot. It just might be too out of place for my blog. (Sorry, I can see that you deducted from my earlier list that the word “Zen” was a spot on for me and used it on plenty of your suggestions).

Anyway, there are plenty of good names out there, but still none of them is the perfect fit that I know instantly that I’ll use. I’d like to say that on your list I liked these names (maybe to help somebody to storm something else based on my likings…):

    Freezerburn
Zenbug || Okay, I said I won’t use the Zen, but this is something I still like. Not going for this one, but maybe something derived…
    A Place for Space
    Liquid Crisp
    Burning Lime

I suppose I’m starting to like these names that have two almost opposite or at least very lowly connected things at the same time…

But anyway, thanks for the help but if somebody has something else, please throw them at me! I’m going to use all these suggestions in brainstorming session later (which won’t be necessary if I get the 100% fit directly here…) :)

Liquid Crisp – strong name and looking briefly at google it doesn’t appear to be in play. I would look a little deeper and jump on it

Liquid implies a lot of good things, no the leas tof which is flowing ink
Crisp speaks for itself in the context of writing
…not that the name needs to make logical sense, but you have that + a hip and catchy invention
