OK here goes: I am starting an high-frequency automated trading firm.
It trades only its own capital, so it would be classified as a “proprietary” trading firm, meaning we don’t take outside investment nor do we sell our intellectual property or services to third parties.
The trading is fully automated, meaning no human decision making is involved once the algorithms are running on the servers. This is known as black-box trading. The time scales are very short. Microseconds will count on speed of placing/canceling orders. Positions are held for very short periods of time: on the order of seconds to minutes at the most. High performance computing and specialized software is required along with low latency network connections to the exchanges and data feeds.
We add liquidity to the markets we trade in, and risk our own capital, thus helping make the markets run more efficiently and conventional investors get better pricing.
The trading will eventually be in many different asset classes including equities, bonds, futures, options, and foreign exchange – initially in US markets but expanding into certain foreign markets as well.
The founders are ex-physicists, electrical engineers, computer science geeks, and communications theory researchers. Typically researchers in the financial industry who apply sophisticated mathematical analysis to trading are called quantitative analysts, or “quants” for short.
I know this is a free web site, but if I get a great company name that I end up using, I am willing to pay for it. You tell me what is appropriate.
We will potentially compete against the big, evil mega-banks/brokers and hope to relieve them of their obscene profits – so there is a Robin Hood element to this.
Here are some examples of successful and/or respected quantitative trading firms (or companies that have departments in that business)
Banks/Brokers:
Goldman Sachs
Morgan Stanley
Barclays
Deutsche Bank
JP Morgan
Hedge Funds:
Athena Capital Research
D.E. Shaw
Renaissance

We are trying to convey that we are: world-class scientists, engineers, and programmers building very intelligent (almost sentient) systems to make statistically significant predictions about the future direction of prices in every imaginable electronically traded security.
Here is what we have come up with so far. Any feedback on existing names is welcome also. Many of them attempt to be a play on Quant (also trying to allude to Quantum Physics, from which some of our mathetmatical concepts are drawn)
Once can add one of the following words to the end of any of these:
