The name of your company should make a sudden impact, be memorable, and create buzz. If not, prepare to be eaten alive by the other companies that know how to brand themselves.

Sorry, I was saying names which are styled like Pingo…are a bit easy. Was wondering whether you have any such styled names?
I am not sure of using Pingo for the company, since I found there are already few companies and tools on those names.
Some possibilities I’ve come up with: CanaClean Anchor Cleaning Action Cleaning All About Clean First Impressions Cleaning Best Impressions Cleaning Great Expectations Cleaning Any of these make sense or any other ideas? I’m trying to keep “carpet” and “upholstery” out of the actual name so I was thinking of a tagline: “Carpet & Upholstery…[Read more]

@snark – What is your take on chris’s Silhouette / Menhir? I like “Flying Anvil” but according to chris it is not really conveying the image I described above? Flying Anvil has certain strength indeed and it sticks in my mind more than Silhouette, which elegance I like. @chris what is your opinion on snark’s suggestion… and [...]

I am starting a social site for freelancers & companies looking for freelance talent online. Need a name that is unique, catchy and memorable that is relevant to the Freelance industry, specifically Freelancers.
ok I think it’s time for me to dive in here and get some feedback. After months of digging around I’ve come up with a name that I thought I liked, but instead of it growing on me, it seems to be losing its lustre a bit. I’m hoping to start a film visual effects [...]

I prefer Anvil to Blacksmith, and Flying Anvil works for me. The reason is that the connotations are slightly, but very importantly, different; the anvil is the tool on which quite intricate and elegant pieces of work are crafted, and by focusing on the word ‘Anvil’ you lose the picture of the sweaty, brawny bloke [...]
Hi there, I’m in the start up phases of creating a circus company specializing in aerial circus acts for highly stylized events. A name that is a play on words but that reflects both the fact that we work in the air and (generally) in outlandish, fun costumes would be great. I don’t want anything [...]
Ok, “easyEmbedded” doesn’t work — in this case the “stranger” was right

@chris – haha… few other people had the same image, I was trying to convince them otherwise. Guess I was wrong… Thanks for the suggestions… these got me thinking. I have checked quickly and Silhouette and Menhir are less used in the industry. I think Menhir I would need to explain to a lot of people [...]
Didn’t your parents teach you not to talk to strangers? Especially to ask for feedback on a naming project. Can I ask what the name was that turned someone off? That may very well be the name for you.
Is your product similar to what Bug Labs is doing? http://www.buglabs.net/
For me, although a blacksmith is beyond doubt a skilled craftsman, the picture it conjures up is all rough and ready (what an erstwhile creative director of mine would have called ‘the residual image’). This seems at variance with the attributes you want to emphasise…..but if you really still want to go with this theme, [...]
Hello, I am in search of a name for an embedded hardware project. We have a working name that all the people involved with the project got very used to. But unfortunately we got bad feedback after talking with strangers about the name. Now we have a really hard time finding a new name. The [...]
