FLIRT

Hello,

I am trying to think of a name for a dating website that begins with flirt, any help would be really appreciated.

Flirtopia is unavailable as .com but that is the kind of thing I mean.

Thanks very much ^_^

There can be no understanding between the hands and the brain unless the heart acts as mediator. (original 1927 "Metropolis" tagline.

Un coup de piratage et la, voila:

Picking on Yahoo! Personals one word slogan, Believe.

Flirtopolis | Unbelievable.

or, better yet:

Flirtopolis | Flirt. Spark. Click.

... with reference back to the definition of spark, as a masculine equivalent of flirt.

v. spark, sparked, spark·ing, sparks

v. tr. To court or woo.

v. intr. To play the suitor.

Click is a double entendre, connoting the interactive computer dating modus operandi and also meaning to really connect in the parlance d'amour.

This tagline is also valuable to break out the word flirt from the brand flirtopolis.

Oh, by the way:

Most famous sexy "double entendre"

Elliott White Springs, in 1947, shocked the business community in the U.S. with his double entendre concerning the Springmaid name. Making use of sex appeal to sell sheets, Springs - a pioneer of quarter of a century ago- used a cartoon of an Indian couple on a sheet hammock. The caption read - "A buck well spent on a Springmaid sheet."

I read about the Yahoo personals slogan in Snark Hunting I think it was. Interestingly they recently removed the category 'married but looking' I think it caused some issues about integrity, even if 17% of online dating users are married, double tsk.

A bit like Sony talking about 'shock and awe' for use in their games, tsk.

Flirtopolis - Unbelievable. Flirtopolis - Shack up and Roar.

:-)

As an alternative to Flirtopolis: Unbelievable, it might be worth at least discussing the pros and cons of a 'positive' expression of the same thought

Flirtopolis | Just believe

or even

Flirtopolis | Only believe

Was also playing with a thought built around the word 'flirty-somethings' but haven't quite nailed it. Along the lines of 'Flirtopolis - the place for flirty-somethings' or 'for flirty-somethings not just thirty-somethings'. Maybe it's trying to do too much work......

You really can't go too near Yahoo! Personals new tagline Believe.

I definitely wouldn't use the word believe in the tagline.

Unbelievable, was mentioned as a tongue in cheek poke, at Yahoo, and a nod to Snark for his article in Snarkhunting in which he lauded that tagline. It might be differentiated sufficiently from Believe. Or not. Frankly, I doubt it. It makes some sense in that flirting is often overselling the offering and, as such, is by definition Unbelievable.

I didn't really think it would be used without a lot of careful consideration.

Unbelievable does have the implication of too good to be true and that might be a negative. Sometimes it means fantastic. And that would be good.

Basically, I was not seriously suggesting Unbelievable, but I might be talked into it with good arguments.

On balance, I favoured:

Flirtopolis | Flirt. Spark. Click.

That tagline reinforces the word flirt. It introduces the word spark, which indicates an initial positive reaction on the one hand and has linguistic reference to masculine wooing and courting whilst flirt is a more feminine behaviour. And click which indicates a really positive match or connection in dating terminology.

Nice graphics blindweezy, the top one has a similar font to the one we chose last week, although we are staying away from stock photography and going with an illustrative look instead. I think the name is going to work very well with the graphic style and colours we have selected.

Lara,

In the meantime, it might be more intriquing to have the holding page, in that very deliberate red, without the word flirtopolis in that inelegant font. The brand is in the URL and in the html title. That's sufficient until you get your graphics finished. It doesn't help the brand to go live with unfinished graphics.

And it doesn't look nearly as credible as it would with a blank red coloured holding page. Whether you use it or not in the final iteration, that colour says you've done your homework and you are entering this market confidently, fearlessly.

Keep them guessing.

Constructive comments on Blindweezy's graphics:

He shows great understanding of the brand. That's not surprising, as it was his friggin' idea.

I really like the font he chose, although he may have used Enlargo on the descender in the top graphic. ;-)

His graphics gave me a renewed appreciation for the tag Unbelievable! With the exclamation mark, it seems to clarify its meaning fantastic. I'd run it through a spellchecker, though. Incroyable!

The middle graphic is the most compelling to me, personally. It really grabs my attention. I'm sure it's the sexually aggressive female. I find it hard to take my eyes off her. I don't know whose are the rights to that image, but I like Blindweezy's taste in photography. That strikes me as an interesting idea to consider for a launch campaign in bus shelters. What is Flirtopolis? It looks like a movie poster. Create a buzz. They'd look it up on the Internet.

I'll leave the robot to Blindweezy's personal fantasy. Good one for your bedroom wall, BW.

As far as the taglines go. I like the look of Flirt.Spark.Click in the graphic, which confirms my sense that this is the better approach on the interactive website. But, I'm intrigued by the notion of using Unbelievable! in a prelaunch print campaign such as bus shelters to create buzz and brand awareness. Maybe it's a case of less information, more chatter, if the imagery hits the mark.

Anyway, it'a all good food for thought.

I agree that 'Unbelievable' could make a powerful pre-launch campaign. Very intriguing, and inviting the reader to come and see if the site is all it's cracked up to be. When they get to see the reality, it will pay off the thought - it truly is 'unbelievably good'. Like abnu, I can see this generating great word of mouth marketing.

Yikes for the typos!!! I was just having some fun with the robot and stock/artist's images... The robot was a gag but sometimes humor can raise a few eyebrows. A 'real' photographer can be expensive but it's worth it if you have the idea first and say - we want thiiiis - go shoot it !...see: http://stock.d2.hu/ (temporarily in relaunch, free!!! high res images for designers, it's the wordlab for photographers). Discussion over which imagery and how to use it - is a long and sticky process, which wordlab rightfully avoids. I'll try to stick with the text! I think graphic design will deliver the brand name but not save it!

couple in rear view mirror - Elliott Erwit, California 1955

Her Kiss - http://oneartrow.com/Pages/Frameset.html

Robot - From Fritz lang photo composite with Kevin Cappis www.surrealplaces.com/cities/ metropolis.html

Whew... hey, for maquettes it's legal - just can't resell these without the author's permission. Typeface : Universe Thin Ultra condensed. Unfuckingbelievable !

Remember Flirtopolis?

Well it was April when the name was finalized, we had come up with the name once before along with Flirtopia and discarded it, then when blindweezy came up with the same name we did the alarm bells rang and we made our decision, thanks again to blindweezy, a brand new u and others for their contributions.

The entire project has been under way now for over 9 months and we are in the final development iteration. I expect the site to be fully complete and in the data center within the next 4 weeks.

I am here not only to update you but to ask for your help once again with the tagline which we are still kicking around and have not finalized. We have some great creativity on the team but we wouldn't want to decide before paying you guys a visit.

So to summarize, here is what we have :-

Flirtopolis

The site is built completely in flash, we decided not to go down the stock photography style route but instead create a unique interface where you could drag and drop members from the new members area to your hotlist or the main feature, from your inbox to the main feature and from anywhere to the messaging area. You can also send flirts in a similar fashion. Basically it's 80% drag and drop, very nice, very different and very distinct human interface, were gonna kick the boring dating sites already out there into oblivion.

The logo is yellow on blue sitting on a cartoony looking cityscape at midnight. Very moody and brings out a strong city/community feeling.

Ideas for a tagline please are very welcome!

Thanks again, we can't wait to show you the finished site.

Hmm, maybe it needs a phrase/slogan with a few more words.

Something that promotes a sense of fun. More feminine.

Flirtopolis - Flirt like crazy and see what happens. Flirtopolis - Unbelievable flirts all over your town! Flirtopolis - It's all right here. Just Flirt! Flirtopolis - Change the record. Flirt! Flirtopolis - Wiggle your mouse and click like crazy. Flirtopolis - Flirt, click and be happy. Flirtopolis - Don't worry be flirty.
