Unique name for wedding/event consultant biz

Posted by:

Laura Allis

Hi...I've been researching for months and can't come up with an unusual name. You're Invited, Occasions, Special Events with...all have been used and reused! Can anyone help? It's a Wedding and Special Event Consultant Business. I am trying to stay away from really sweet sounding names...Elegant, Affairs to Remember...

Need something really catchy. Thanks so much!

I see this is for other events as well and I agree with the direction you've laid out: unusual, catchy, not too cute, etc.

Thanks everyone for responding so quicky. A few of the suggestions I have already considered. It's funny, I think I like one, then I find a company with almost the same name. Aghhh....

I did think of L.A. Events...but in my area (Michigan) they might think I'm being snobbish! Allis in Wonderland is cute...but I don't think it's the image I'm trying to obtain...

I learned of this site from Fresh Ginger!Productions!. Great name! Fresh, energitic...

I'm still looking...

The Allis Taken Care Of is a great concept, but wrong way to pronouce my name! Wouldn't be a great marketing tool.

Still taking suggestions. Again, thanks so much. I don't mean to be anal about it. (By the way, I HATE that word.)

Is there anything out there that might sound Classic and Chic at the same time?

Still hoping! Thanks so much, Laura

Laura Allis is strong. Has a designer-type ring to it and you can simply market your name. As the business grows, the name gains its own panache.

The other suggestion from your daughter I like is Social Butterfly, but I would point out you wanted to stay away from too cute. Where it wins is in the catchy/memorable department. Your daughter is on the mark and going with her choice might inspire her to assist in other ways as well. Not too many of us have that Perry Ellis style of name - Laura Allis is planning your wedding? Very smart.

Playing on A Brand New You's suggestions, but going with the name Laura Allis alone, you could eventually incorporate the copy Cordial Allis and/or Allis Care Free; perhaps as headers within a brochure or within an advert.

Allis Care Free is a good slogan, especially if the Laura Allis name has recognition.

Maybe you should just start designing women's suits instead :)

I agree.

Laura Allis is a very strong brand name.

It conveys personal style and the owner's committment, which is important to build trust in a personal service business.

It is very well suited to your business model.

Think Laura Ashley meets Perry Ellis.

Laura Allis sounds like it has a good pedigree.

www.lauraashley.com

www.perryellis.com

To get around the apparent challenge of the double aa in the middle of the domain name www.lauraallis.com you should register both that and www.laura-allis.com and point them to the same website, as does www.laura-ashley.com.

Laura, you can invest the money you saved developing a brand name to hire a professional graphic designer to create your identity collateral, like business cards, brochures and website.

After all, the business will have your name on it!

You may be wise not to rush to add any tagline to the Laura Allis brand.

Let the brand graphics appropriately align the name with the offering. If your business is offering good taste, creative style, attention to detail and flawless execution, you have to convey all that in the visual and tactile effect of your brand communications.

Invest in quality in collateral print materials and you'll save a fortune in advertising costs in the launch of your business.

Marketing tags and slogans have a relatively short shelf life, compared to the brand. Even major brands tire of these. When was the last time we heard, Just Do It?

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Maybe that's why I've had such a difficult time deciding on an assumed name. One's been attached to me the whole time!

You don't realize how you made me feel this morning...I feel as though a huge boulder has been lifted off my shoulders. You do know how to make one smile:) and blush (haha) and I thank you all for that!!!!!

One more question...would you add the EventStyle or just go with Special Occasions/Social Occasions, Occasions... There is another consultant about an hour away and she uses her name plus just weddings. I wouldn't want to do that, because I do more than weddings.

Thanks again to all of you! Hey!!! Any ideas on graphics/etc. If you all are that good at this?????!!!!! Just kidding...I know I'm being a pain...but I do appreciate all your ideas and inspirations. I'm actually very excited to continue onto the next phase of planning. You don't realize how many sleepless nights I've had over this whole naming experience. Worse than when I named my kids!!!I always thought my name sounded ok, but figured I needed an actual "name". But your kind and inspirational words changed that! Ok, i'll stop now. But hey...Thanks again...You'll never know how much you helped!!

I agree with almost everything a brand new u says about the importance of getting the collateral right and the need for it to reflect your brand values.

My only point of difference is that you shouldn't confuse the roles of collateral and advertising. Advertising is (principally) about generating awareness of your brand; collateral is (principally) about reinforcing the brand values and telling the detail story.

Your advertising (or direct marketing etc) is about finding a powerful message about why people should choose you. Your collateral then makes them identify with your approach and style. You can't replace the one with the other (but I agree that getting them both working in harmony is important and the combined effect will be greater than the sum of the individual parts)

...and I absolutely agree that Laura Allis is potentially a strong brand, particularly for the line of business you are in.

brand new u is also right about tag lines - they are better suited to individual campaigns than businesses (by and large). That said, you may want to add a descriptor until your business gets established, so people understand what you do - something like:

Laura Allis
Wedding and Special Events Planning

The tag can go once you have started to build the business. I like the word planning (thanks quark) more than consultant.

Laura Allis is just perfect. You'd be wise to keep your brand clean of any limiting elebments or ... something.

You never know what future opportunities may be open for this venture, so you don't want to encumber the brand with baggage.

As you speak with your graphic designers about letterhead and business cards, you might want to think about getting some advice from an olfactory psychologist about "scented" print materials. This is a "sensitive" issue, but your business is one which can communicate by appealing to senses that are often overlooked in the branding of a business.

That's why we play the game. I have the same problem with chess

Re the subtitle for Laura Allis, I suspect chris' message was still in prep when Laura asked for advice there and I would agree Wedding and Special Events Planning suffices. Still, it got me to thinking...

Occasion Allis
Wedding and Special Events Planning

What do we think of that one?

RE: Unique name for wedding/event consultant biz

I think that, to make that work, you need to know that the name of the principal behind the business is called 'Allis'. The advantage of 'Laura Allis' is that you intuitively assume that that is the name of the principal and hence understand why the business is called what it is.

However, 'Occasion Allis' could be the way to go once the business was established and you wanted to diversify. Then separate parts of the business would retain the 'Allis' name with a descriptor attached to it. Hence the events management business would be called 'Occasion Allis'.....

This is exactly the Virgin principle. Virgin is common to all the businesses, but each is called 'Virgin Atlantic', 'Virgin Records', 'Virgin Cola' etc.

Let me also explain why I think it is important to add a strap line to the business to describe what it does in its early days. The business may or may not wish to diversify eventually, but the issue TODAY is to build TODAY's business and not tomorrow's. Lack of focus is perhaps the biggest killer of businesses, and to compromise clarity of communication today in the interests of a speculative tomorrow is to put the cart before the horse.

Build a strong brand and future brand challenges will take care of themselves.
