According to the National Retail Federation President Tracy Mullin, Black Friday this year will go down as one of the earliest and most promoted in history. He believes consumers will back down, however, after the initial surge. "This is what I call a false start," says Mullin.

Personally, I never understood the attraction of waiting in line in the Wii hours of the night for once-a-year retail spoils, but I love the stories.

Here is a personal account of Michael Lowe's Black Friday shopping this year, which began around 2:30 AM:
